5-6 KCHS girls lax equals win total of 3 previous seasons

WORTON — Kent County High School’s go-to gals — junior Mary Jane Joiner, sophomore Jane Cleary and freshman Abby Gallo — each netted a hat trick Thursday on the way to an 11-3 triumph over visiting North Dorchester in varsity girls lacrosse.

Sophomore Taylor Strong and freshman Clare Gerstung each contributed a goal for the winners.

Freshman Lyric Frase, who is brand new to the sport of lacrosse, picked up her first win as the net-minder. She’s stepped up, and stepped in, since the starting goalie suffered an off-the-field injury during spring break and will be out for the rest of the season.

This was the Trojans’ fifth win of the season, equaling the win total of their previous three seasons.

North Dorchester is offering lacrosse as a varsity sport for the first time. The Eagles (2-8) were led in scoring by sophomore midfielder Adi Thomas (two goals) and senior midfielder Jules Tobat (one goal, one assist).

Other noteworthy stats for KCHS: Joiner scooped up five ground balls and won three draw controls; Cleary had three assists and five ground balls; Gallo assisted twice; Strong got her first goal of the season; and Gerstung netted her first high school point.

WHAT’S NEXT: The Trojans (5-6) close out the regular season Wednesday, April 30 at winless Wicomico.
