SUDLERSVILLE — Investigators have determined that Monday morning’s house fire in the 1300-block of Sudlersville Road was accidental, caused by an unspecified electrical failure involving a window air conditioning unit.
Five people have been displaced, according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
No one was home at the time of the fire.
A family pet perished.
A neighbor discovered the fire just before 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3 and called 911, according to the fire marshal’s office.
The fire was brought under control in 45 minutes.
A total of 25 firefighters were on the scene of what ultimately was a two-alarm fire, according to the fire marshal’s office.
Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company of Centreville was the primary responder.
According to investigators, the fire originated in the living room of the one-story, single-family dwelling.
A smoke alarm was present and activated.
Loss to the structure and contents is estimated to be $100,000, according to the preliminary report.
