WORTON — Ramon “RJ” Peterson has added another record to his awe-inspiring track and field résumé.
The Kent County High School junior sprinted across the finish line in the 200 meters in a winning time of 22 seconds flat here on April 15, equaling the school standard that Lamont Wesley established in May of 2007.
During the indoor season, Peterson eclipsed Wesley’s then-17-year-old record in the 300 meters and re-established the record several more times as he captured a Bayside Conference title and subsequently placed fifth in the state.
Peterson won a total of three events at last week’s meet, the only home meet of the spring season for the Trojans. His long jump of 19 feet, 9.5 inches was 8.5 inches better than his nearest challenger and his triple jump of 41-7.5 was more than 2 feet better than the runner-up.
KCHS also had second-place finishers in Kiyan Hynson (400 meters and 300-meter hurdles), Trent Johnson (800 meters) and Harrison Gibby (discus and shot put).
On the girls side, Kent County was led by sprinter Ayrin Houston, middle and long distance runners Janey Depp, Delilah Markovic and McKenzie Smith, jumper Kamari Hoxter and thrower Ke’yare Hawkins.
This was a four-school meet that included Colonel Richardson, North Caroline and North Dorchester high sschools.
