Trojans to travel in region softball

WORTON — Paige Miller’s bases-loaded triple in the last of the fifth inning Monday sent Kent County High School to the Class 1A state softball tournament with a confidence-boosting double-digit victory.

KCHS defeated Washington, 15-3, in the regular-season finale to improve to 4-13 — twice as many wins as a year ago.

Michelle Menequin picked up the mercy rule-abbreviated win. All three runs charged to her were unearned.

The Trojans will travel to No. 4 seed St. Michaels this afternoon for the play-in game of the East Region I.

St. Michaels (6-12) swept Kent County in the home-and-away series, but the game here just two weeks ago was extremely close, 19-16.

The winner of the Kent-St. Michaels game will face No. 1 seed and defending champion Bo Manor (13-4) on Monday, May 12 in the region semifinals.

In the other half of the bracket, No. 2 seed Colonel Richardson (12-6) will host No. 3 seed Perryville (8-8).

The region final is May 14 at the higher seed.
