Amado appointed to fill council vacancy in Millington

MILLINGTON —  John Amado Jr. will become Councilman Amado at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Millington mayor and council.

On July 8, Amado will be sworn in by Mayor Kevin Hemstock.

He will serve out the nearly two years remaining on the term of Mark Linton that expires in April 2027.

Citing job and family commitments, Linton emailed town officials in April expressing his desire to resign, Town Administrator Elizabeth “Jo” Manning told The Evening Enterprise.

Upon receipt of Linton’s resignation, “council members were asked to begin the search for a replacement. Mr. Amado was the only resident to step up and volunteer for this position,” Manning said.

At their June 10 meeting, Hemstock and the three sitting council members — Michelle Holland, Zita Seals and Wayne Starkey — approved Amado’s appointment.

Linton was appointed in 2022 to fill a vacancy on the council, and then ran unopposed for a full term in 2024.

Millington has a mayor and four council members. Their three-year terms are staggered. All positions are unpaid.
