Alumni soccer tradition continues at KCHS

WORTON — Everyone walked away a winner Saturday night from an alumni soccer twin bill at Kent County High School.

The match between the guys ended in a 4-4 draw, with each side scoring once after halftime.

Senior Martin Parrish (twice) and freshman Sebastien Cousineau scored in the first half for the Trojans’ 2023 team, while the alums were led by Yahir “YaYa” Fernandez-Ochoa, Joey Ciganek and Cade Terrill.

In the second game for the gals, both sides consisted of current players and alumnae — and a couple of guys to fill out the rosters. The final score was 3-2.

Among those cheering on all players were 2023 coaches Kelly Anne Turner, Samantha Cawthorne, Jason Blusk and Tom Speakman.

If a door prize were to be awarded for the most senior of alumni, that would go to David Ostwind, Class of 1994. He’s a Naval Academy graduate currently assigned to Homeland Security.

Ostwind, who was more of a lacrosse player than a soccer player back in the day, brought along his young son and daughter as witnesses to his goal-tending exploits in both matches.
