Applause, please

WORTON — The window on high school winter sports in Kent County will close soon.

For public schools, the regional basketball tournaments get underway on Tuesday, Feb. 27 and the state wrestling tournament begins Thursday, Feb. 29.

State champions already have been crowned in swimming and indoor track.

Practices for spring sports begin Friday, March 1.

The Evening Enterprise wants to take this opportunity to say “Bravo” to all who have participated in winter sports. Your accomplishments fill our hearts with joy and pride.

We also applaud coaches, staff and athletes’ families and friends.

In our photograph here, taken on Senior Night for the cheerleading and boys basketball programs at Kent County High School, it’s a tie as to whose smile is broader — senior cheerleader Jaeda Hoxter or her mother LaKesha Hoxter.

Jaeda, like many of her peers, is someone who excels in the classroom and on the playing fields — a student-athlete who also is a scholar-athlete. This school year alone she will letter in volleyball (she was the team MVP in the fall), cheerleading, indoor track, and outdoor track and field. She also is president of the KCHS chapter of the Minority Scholars Program and carries a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. She is headed to Morgan State University in the fall with the intent to double-major in social work and elementary education.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, “BRAVO!”
