Begly returns to Conn College as head coach after 3 years at Washington

CHESTERTOWN — Washington College’s head men’s basketball coach Corey Begly is moving on, and moving back, to Connecticut College, where he had been the assistant coach for four years before coming to Chestertown in the summer of 2023.

Conn College announced Begly’s return to the New London campus in a July 9 news release.

Begly succeeds Tim Sweeney, who after seven years at Connecticut College has accepted the head coaching job at Franklin & Marshall College, which is a conference rival of Washington.

In each of his three seasons at Washington, Begly [22-53] improved the team’s winning percentage.

The Shoremen opened the 2025-26 season on a nine-game winning streak, the program’s best start since 1928-29.

Washington finished 10-15, the most wins in a season since the 10-16 campaign of 2019-20.

A nationwide search for the next Shoremen head coach is underway.
