Best times are the rule as Trojans prep for conference championships

SNOW HILL — Kent County’s Keelyn Clayton, Joey Homyack, Trent Johnson, Joshua Na-El, Chris Gonzales and John Fries were at their very best Jan. 14 in their final prep for the conference’s indoor track championships.

Clayton, a freshman, PR’d in three middle-distance events and was top 10 in all of them. She also had her best place-finish ever, third in the 1600 meters.

Senior Ke’yare Hawkins led all Kent County High School performers as the runner-up with a shot put of 32 feet, 4.5 inches. [She holds the school record of 35 feet, 3.25 inches, established in February of 2024.]

Kent County’s boys were led by senior Johnson and sophomore Homyack, who placed fourth in the 500 and 1600 meters, respectively.

The Jan. 14 meet was held at the Worcester County Recreation Center. As has been the rule, it was a large meet drawing athletes from 16 high schools on the Eastern Shore — from all nine counties, Kent to Somerset.
