Board of education candidates forum is Oct. 22

CHESTERTOWN — Candidates seeking a seat on the Kent County Board of Education in next month’s election have confirmed their attendance at a forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Kent County on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

The forum, which gets underway at 6 p.m., will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown, 905 Gateway Drive.

There are four candidates for the two open seats: Piers Heriz-Smith, Laura McKenzie, John Queen and incumbent Francoise Sullivan.

They will have an opportunity to introduce themselves and then answer two questions prepared by the LWV that they have received ahead of the forum.

The audience also will be able to ask questions of the candidates; audience members will be asked to limit their questions to 90 seconds.

The forum will end with closing statements from each candidate.

The school board election is nonpartisan.

Those who attend the forum will be asked to refrain from demonstrations.

No campaign signs will be allowed in the event room, including any indication of support for a candidate on clothing, signage or buttons.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization dedicated to promoting informed and active citizen participation in government; it does not support or oppose any political parties or candidates for office.
