CHESTERTOWN — Junior center Kaitlyn Boggs put up a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds and flirted with a triple-double after establishing a program record of eight blocks in a single game Saturday.
Senior Karry Kelliher, who led all players with 12 points, and Boggs provided the one-two scoring punch to help Washington defeat Salisbury, 50-39, in the season-opening basketball game for both schools.
It was back and fourth early before Washington took the lead for good at 17-16 on a Peyton Berger jumper with about four and a half minutes remaining before intermission.
Washington closed out the half with eight unanswered points — a pair of Abby Meredith free throws and field goals from Berger, Kelliher and Emma Robinson — to make it 23-16.
The locals took their largest lead of the game, 49-36, on two Boggs’ free throws with 2 minutes, 14 seconds to play.
