Busted

CHESTERTOWN — Kent County Middle School closed Thursday morning, Jan. 23 because of a water main break. Bus riders were picked up at 9 a.m. and families were able to come to the school any time before then to pick up their students.

East Campus Avenue was closed from David Drive to Barroll Drive all day and into the early evening while Chestertown’s utilities crew, Utilities Manager Bob Sipes, D.E. Nicholson and others worked in extreme cold temperatures — as low as single digits in the morning.

Repairs were completed before 7 p.m. with water restored.

Superintendent Mary McComas reported that school will be in session tomorrow.

It’s been a heckuva start to 2025 for Kent County Public Schools students with delayed openings and an entire week of school closures Jan. 6-10 and again on Tuesday, Jan. 21 because of snow, ice and road conditions.
