DUCK NECK — An unspecified electrical failure appears to be the cause of Thursday’s pre-dawn fire that destroyed a camper here, according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
No injuries were reported.
Loss to the 30-foot aluminum camper with attached living quarters was estimated to be $100,000, with an additional $20,000 in loss related to the camper’s contents, according to a news release from the fire marshal’s office.
The fire was at Duck Neck Campground in the 500-block of Double Creek Point Road near Chestertown, which is located on the Queen Anne’s County side of the Chester River.
According to the fire marshal’s office, the camper owner discovered the fire at 4:47 a.m. Thursday, July 25.
The smoke alarm activated, according to investigators.
A total of 24 firefighters responded, and brought the fire under control in 30 minutes, according to investigators.
Crumpton Volunteer Fire Company was the primary responder.
The OSFM reported there were two alarms.
The fire originated in the underside of the camper, according to the fire marshal’s office.
