Carol McClees is The Artists’ Gallery exhibitor for January

CHESTERTOWN — In January, The Artists’ Gallery will welcome its newest exhibitor, Carol McClees.

She is a contemporary realist and an award-winning lifelong painter whose self-directed education includes studying with some of the best national and regional artists, according to a news release.

While McClees has practiced in many mediums, she favors working in oil.

McClees has exhibited in many juried shows throughout the United States, and her work is part of many private collections throughout the mid-Atlantic, Midwest, West Coast and New England.

She is an active member of many art organizations, including American Society of Marine Artists (board of directors, 2018-2021), Working Artists Forum (board of directors, 2021-2023) and Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association.

Born and raised in New England, McClees is married to a native Marylander and lives in Baltimore.

Her interests include sailing on the Chesapeake Bay aboard her Cal 36 sloop “ Skean Dhu,” tennis, Nantucket Basket weaving, embroidery and reading.

Prior to being a full-time artist, for many years McClees used her marketing and nursing education to the fullest; she is a registered nurse and has a Master of Business Administration degree.

“Inspired by nature, animals, architecture, and above all the human connection, I aspire to capture the essence and freshness of my broad subject range using pleasing design, broad strokes, lively color and vibration of light and shadows,” McClees states on her website.

The Artists’ Gallery is located at 239 High St. in downtown Chestertown. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sundays.
