ROCK HALL — Police Chief Bill Dempsey, foreground, salutes as the Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion Post 228 color guard leads the July 4 parade along Main Street in Rock Hall.

The parade of 70-plus entries stepped off at 10 a.m. from the Lagoon and followed its customary route to the Civic Center.

Jean Spence was the grand marshal.

Other honorees included Little Miss Rock Hall, Paisley Usilton; Junior Miss Rock Hall, Emmy Kelley; Miss Rock Hall, Lydia Masse; and Junior Mayor Grant Stoops.

What has been described as “a small town tradition at its best” included antique vehicles, the Legion Riders motorcycle club, Rough Riders equestrians, floats featuring 4-H’ers and Little League baseball champs, patriotic music, pirates, local politicians and lots of fire trucks.

In the words of parade emcee Brian Jones, “Happy birthday America.”
