CHESTERTOWN — The Lions Club here will host its annual Halloween parade on Saturday, Oct. 26, stepping off at 1 p.m.
The Chestertown Lions Club-sponsored parade, which has been a holiday staple for more than 50 years, will travel down High Street from Kent Street to Queen Street.
There will be marching bands, floats and costumed characters of all ages.
Cash prizes and gift certificates will be awarded to the judges’ favorites in various age groups, from preschool to adult.
New this year is a category for pets.
Those in costume who intend to walk in the parade can register and queue up in front of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 508 High St. (near Kent Street) up to 90 minutes prior to the parade start, but must have registered before 12:45 p.m.
A news release from the Lions Club states: “The parade theme is Halloween and geared toward children, therefore floats should relate to that theme and avoid overtly commercial or social/political signage and presentation, such as political candidates or parties.”
Those who intend to participate as a float do not need to register, but are expected to adhere to all safety precautions for their riders and the public. Any signage should be minimal.
Floats must line up across from Dixon Drive on High Street, and may register at the starting area between 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.
The rain date is 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.
See www.chestertownlions.org for any updates regarding the parade.
