Community responses to food insecurity is topic of local Dems’ meeting

CHESTERTOWN — This month’s meeting of the Democratic Club of Kent County will feature Deeann Jones, program director of the Kent County Food Pantry, and Sandy Zappia, owner of Sandy’s Garden, who will discuss food insecurity locally and how residents can help alleviate it.

The public is invited to the Thursday, July 17 meeting. There is no cost, but consider bringing a donation for the food pantry.

The Kent County Food Pantry, which operates out of First United Methodist Church in Chestertown, provides supplemental food to persons with limited incomes. No one who needs food is turned away. Referrals are not required.

Sandy’s Garden, a 3.5-acre farm on Annie Crow Road near Chestertown, donates fresh produce to local food pantries.

The DCKC’s July 17 meeting will be held at Phat Daddy’s BBQ Shack, 205 Spring Ave. in Chestertown. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. to order a meal and share some social time before the meeting.

A brief business meeting will be conducted by the club at 6:45 p.m.

The program will start at 7 p.m. and end no later than 8:30 p.m.
