WORTON — For the second year in a row, Kent County High School is being applauded for outstanding sportsmanship among Bayside Conference schools.
The Bayside Conference Sportsmanship Award is presented annually to the school or schools that have accumulated the highest ranking in climate, spectators, athletes, coaching and supervision.
For each varsity sport throughout the year, schools submit evaluations ranking their opponents. At the conclusion of the academic year, a Bayside Conference committee compiles the results for each sport to generate a grade for each school.
KCHS received the award for schools in the North division, while Mardela received the award for schools in the South division.
The Bayside Conference is composed of all 18 public high schools in the eight counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, from Kent to Worcester.
Kent County High School also earned the conference’s outstanding sportsmanship award in 2023-24 and 2018-19.
To date, all of KCHS’ recognition for outstanding sportsmanship in the Bayside Conference has come during the tenure of Athletic Director Kevin Taylor.
Taylor has been the AD at his alma mater for 17 years.
He is retiring after 32 years as a teacher with Kent County Public Schools, including the last 18 at KCHS.
