WORTON — Monday’s Class 1A East II Region lacrosse doubleheader here ended with a double dose of heartbreak for host Kent County High School.
In the girls championship game, No. 2 seed Elkton defeated No. 1 seed KCHS, 14-13, in sudden death. The winning goal was scored with only 33 seconds remaining in the 3-minute extra period.
In the nightcap, No. 3 seed Cambridge-South Dorchester edged No. 1 seed KCHS, 8-7, in the boys final. Cambridge trailed 7-5 at halftime.
Last week, Kent County’s softball and baseball teams were eliminated in the first round of their respective region tournaments.
No. 3 seed Colonel Richardson defeated No. 6 KCHS in softball, 16-0.
In the opening round of the baseball tournament, No. 3 seed Perryville defeated No. 6 seed Kent County, 13-3. Perryville has advanced to the region final.
Meantime, on Tuesday at the Glasgow Tennis Courts in Cambridge, Kent County’s unbeaten junior Sebastien Cousineau repeated as the region champ in boys singles. He was the Class 1A state runner-up last year.
KCHS’ track and field athletes will wrap up their state-qualifying region meet on Thursday, May 14 at Kent County High School.
