Delmarva United Marching Band has 5 parades; first rehearsal is March 22

CHESTERTOWN — The first rehearsal for the Delmarva United Marching Band’s 2026 parade schedule is Sunday, March 22 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church’s hall in downtown Chestertown — promptly at 6 p.m.

There will be three additional rehearsals — all at 6 p.m. on Sundays, April 12, April 26 and May 17 in the church hall — leading up to the Tea Party Festival parade on May 23 and the Memorial Day parade on May 25.

The band, formed three years ago, continues to be under the direction of Mark Crossley and led by drum major Mark Mumford.

Kent Cultural Alliance also continues as a steadfast sponsor.

The performance schedule remains the same as in the previous two years and will include July 4 in Rock Hall, Aug. 1 for Betterton Day and Oct. 31 for the Chestertown Lions Club’s Halloween parade that coincides with Sultana’s Downrigging Weekend — in addition to the Tea Party and Memorial Day parades.

“Our music scores that we purchased last year will be our focus to accomplish for this season,” Mumford said.

Music scores are “Washington Post,” “Manhattan Beach,” “Liberty Bell,” “The Thunderer” and “Semper Fidelis,” all marches by John Philip Sousa.

Anyone interested in being a part of the Delmarva United Marching Band — as a member of the color guard, banner carrier, majorette or musician — can email Mumford at drummajormark@aol.com, call Mumford at 410-778-0022 or just show up at the first practice. New members are welcome.

Emmanuel Church is located at the corner of Cross Street and Monument Plaza across from Fountain Park.
