Early-morning fire displaces 2; cause is under investigation

SUDLERSVILLE — The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the area of origin and cause of an early morning house fire Saturday, Dec. 16 in the 500-block of Bolton Woods Road.

Two occupants were able to escape without injury, but were displaced. They are being assisted by relatives, according to the fire marshal’s office.

The estimated loss in damages to the structure and contents is $100,000, according to a news release from the fire marshal’s office.

The OSFM and Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation list the owner of the one-story wood frame home at 550 Bolton Woods Road as Raymond Jones.

According to the news release, Jones and another  occupant discovered the fire at at 1:15 a.m. 

The Sudlersville Volunteer Fire Company was the primary responder. Nearly 30 firefighters battled the blaze for an hour before bringing it under control, according to the news release.

The fire marshal’s office reported that a smoke alarm was not present.
