Feyerherm joins Shelter Alliance’s board

CHESTERTOWN — Sarah Feyerherm, Washington College’s vice president of student affairs, is joining The Shelter Alliance Board of Directors.

Her term begins Aug. 13.

At Washington College, Feyerherm’s major responsibilities include oversight of the out-of-class experience for students, including residential life, health and counseling; career development; varsity athletics; public safety; and other co-curricular experiences that support student success and well-being.

As vice president of student affairsI, she is tasked with ensuring the college’s compliance with federal statutes including Title IX, the Clery Act, the Violence Against Women Act and a variety of state legislation.

Feyerherm, who holds a doctorate of education in innovation and leadership, also is an associate professor of practice in Washington’s education department and is the director of the Wellness and Personal Development curricular program.

“Each of Sarah Feyerherm’s areas of responsibility require a tremendous amount of expertise that will serve The Shelter Alliance in advancing its goals of addressing the immediate needs of the unhoused and the root causes of homelessness,” board President Genevieve Menard said in a news release.

“We are confident that Sarah will put her expertise to work in areas including governance, finance, program development, operations, housing and compliance,” Menard added.

Feyerherm is a former board member of the United Way of Kent County, and with 30-plus years at Washington College she is well-established in the community.

She is an experienced problem-solver, which “will be vital to The Shelter Alliance as our goal of expanding our current services and opening a year-round shelter with wrap-around services evolves,” Menard said.
