FAIRLEE — The origin and cause of a fire Saturday afternoon that destroyed a detached garage and all its contents and extensively damaged a 35-foot camper parked nearby is under investigation.

The dispatch went out at about 1:30 p.m. May 30 for a structure fire in the 8900-block of Fairlee Road, near Chestertown.
According to a news release from the fire marshal’s office, a neighbor called 911 after seeing smoke and flames coming from the garage, identified as a 30×35-foot wood frame structure.
Volunteer firefighters from Kent and Queen Anne’s counties responded, about 40 in all. They brought the fire under control in an hour.
Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company was the primary responding agency.
No injuries were reported.
According to the news release, there was no smoke alarm or fire alarm/sprinkler present.
