Ford pins down Bayside title; Sutton and Clark take 3rd

BERLIN — Kent County sophomore Scottie Ford was crowned the 138-pound champion in yesterday’s Bayside Conference wrestling tournament. He pushed his overall record to 34-1 after winning three bouts by pin and a 6-0 decision over last year’s champ, Parkside junior Rocco Tulley (33-8), in the title bout.

Also for the Trojans, senior Brady Sutton (26-6) and junior Ethan Clark (14-2) placed third at 144 and 150, respectively.

Freshman Rhi Ashley-Pinder took fourth in the 110-pound bracket of the girls tournament.

The top four place-finishers in each weight class automatically advance to this weekend’s region tournament, which is the state qualifier.

Kent County’s other entries in the Monday, Feb. 19 conference tournament were sophomore Noah Iacona (12-7), fifth at 126; senior Liam Gallo (11-11), fifth at 175; and senior Anthony Wilson (12-16), eighth at 190.

In team scoring, four-time defending champ and tournament host Stephen Decatur boasted seven individual title winners to outclass the rest of the 15-school field with 269.5 points. Parkside was a distant runner-up with 183 points.

Kent County was ninth.

We will have a more thorough report later in the week, but wanted to share this news now.
