Groppe-led River Raptors win United Way’s fundraising bocce tournament

CHESTERTOWN — River Raptors claimed the top prize in the United Way of Kent County’s second annual bocce tournament Saturday, April 6 in Wilmer Park.

In addition to competing for prizes, participants were able to get in some practice for Ye Olde Towne Bocce League’s upcoming spring season.

Matt Groppe captained the winning team, supported by Muriel Cole, Denise Groppe, and John and Deborah Murphy. They were awarded a food and wine basket donated by Chesapeake Bank and Trust and Crow Vineyard.

The Flock and Roll team of Debbie Wiener, Amy Brown, Lori Pinder and Chrissy Nelson raised the most money. Their prize was a cruise aboard the River Packet, donated by the Chester River Packet Co.

Urban Grid, which develops solar and storage projects, was the lead sponsor.

Other sponsors included Fit Flock, Chestertown Animal Hospital, Chesapeake Bank and Trust, Washington College’s enrollment office, Chesapeake Investment Advisors, Twigs and Teacups, Mimi’s Closet, Hoon & Associates, Cross Street Realtors, Valliant Wealth Strategies, Hogans Agency Inc., Wye Financial Partners, Park Row Floats, Harborview Farms, Molly’s, Gillespie & Son Inc. and Crow Vineyard.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the United Way.
