Heather Mizeur endorses Francoise Sullivan for Kent County Board of Education

WORTON — Seeking re-election to the Kent County Board of Education, Francoise Sullivan has received the endorsement of former Maryland delegate Heather Mizeur.

In a news release, Mizeur said she supported Sullivan “because her proven leadership, dedication to student success and commitment to fostering inclusive, innovative learning environments ensure that our schools continue to thrive.”

Mizeur said Sullivan’s “experience and vision make her the steady hand we need to navigate the challenges ahead.”

Sullivan is serving a second year as vice president of the school board, and previously served two years as co-chair of the board’s Citizen Advisory Committee.

She has appeared multiple times in Annapolis to give testimony on proposed bills that would benefit Kent County Public Schools and the Kent County community.

Sullivan and her husband Mark have two children who attend Kent County Public Schools.

A Worton resident since 2003, Sullivan runs a website design business and is active in the community, previously volunteering on the KidSpot board, the Chestertown Tea Party Festival Committee and the HP Festival Committee. She currently serves on the marketing committee for the Garfield Center for the Arts.

In the news release, Sullivan said, “I am honored to have the endorsement of Heather Mizeur. She is a strong believer in public education and understands the needs of our small, rural school district.”

Mizeur served in the Maryland House of Delegates, representing the 20th district in Montgomery County, from 2007 to 2015. Since that time she has lived in Kent County full time.

In 2022, she ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in Maryland’s 1st congressional district, challenging incumbent Andy Harris.

Sullivan is seeking a second term on the Kent County Board of Education.

The election is Tuesday, Nov. 5.

There are two seats on the ballot and four candidates: Piers Heriz-Smith, Laura McKenzie, John Queen and Sullivan.

Two-term incumbent Joe Goetz is not seeking a third term.

The school board race is nonpartisan.

Trish McGee, owner and publisher of The Evening Enterprise, is an elected member of the Kent County Board of Education.
