CHESTERTOWN — After its annual winter closure and a major renovation project to reinforce the second floor, the Historical Society of Kent County is reopening the doors of its museum, research library and gift shop at 301 High St. in downtown Chestertown.
“Join us April 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. for a grand reopening celebration and be among the first to experience our newest exhibit, ‘The Mysteries of Lambert Wickes,’ one of the most daring naval captains of the Revolutionary era,” a post on the historical society’s website states.
It’s First Friday, so stop by for the exhibit debut, light refreshments and a chance to see the Bordley History Center refreshed for the new season.
As it reopens, the HSKC is looking for volunteers to help share Kent County history. The greatest needs are for museum docents, historic district walking tour guides and ghost walk guides, and someone with a love of books and a flair for retail to act as book buyer for the museum shop.
Volunteering is a wonderful way to meet people, learn more about local history and help bring Kent County’s past to life for visitors and neighbors alike.
Volunteer service also has a real impact; each hour of volunteer time contributes an estimated $34.79 in value to the Historical Society of Kent County, according to an organization spokesperson.
