KENNEDYVILLE — For the second time in six months, volunteer firefighters have been called out in the middle of the night to a vacant home in the 11000-block of Augustine Herman Highway that investigators believe was intentionally set on fire.
The most recent call was Saturday, Aug. 23 at 1 a.m.
According to a news release from the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal, security cameras from the nearby Kennedyville firehouse captured the image of someone “igniting a fire on the exterior of the structure and then running away.”
A neighbor called in the fire.
Kennedyville Volunteer Fire Company was the primary responder. A total of 40 firefighters were on the scene, and brought the fire under control in 20 minutes, according to the news release.
No injuries were reported.
Loss is estimated to be $50,000.
There also was a fire at this property at 11947 Augustine Herman Highway, the main thoroughfare through the village of Kennedyville, on Feb. 28.
Investigators determined that the fire originated in the rear of the two-story, single-family home that was unoccupied.
A passerby reported the fire at 2:16 a.m.
Twenty firefighters responded and brought the fire under control in 50 minutes, according to a news release.
Kennedyville Volunteer Fire Company was the primary responder.
Loss to the structure was estimated to be $20,000, according to a news release.
