ROCK HALL — Tuesday night’s house fire near here appears to be accidental, according to a preliminary report from the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
Investigators are pointing to unattended cooking as the cause of the March 25 fire, according to a news release from the fire marshal’s office.
An adult male was treated on the scene for a minor burn injury, according to the news release.
The call came in at 6:30 p.m. for a dwelling fire in the 5400-block of Eastern Neck Road.
The homeowner reported the fire, which originated in the kitchen.
Investigators with the OSFM reported there was a smoke alarm in the house, but it was undetermined if the alarm activated, according to the news release.
Twenty-six firefighters responded and brought the fire under control in about an hour, according to the news release. Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company was the primary responding fire company.
According to the news release, the estimated loss to the structure — described as a two-story, wood-frame, single-family dwelling — and contents is $30,000.
