CHESTERTOWN — The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal determined that a Nov. 17 fire in the parking lot of the Royal Farms convenience store, 859 High St., was intentionally set.
“The investigation revealed a homeless person started a fire with a newspaper in order to stay warm,” according to an OSFM news release.
There was no response from firefighters because the fire self-extinguished.
According to the news release, “The paper burned itself out without causing any damage.”
No injuries were reported.
A passerby reported the debris fire at 5:53 a.m., according to investigators.
