Investigators say house fire was ‘incendiary’

PINEY NECK – A house fire here on Sept. 13 was deliberately set, according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

No injuries were reported.

Loss to the one-story wood frame structure was estimated to be $5,000, according to a news release.

The address listed was the 4900-block of Crosby Road, outside the town limits of Rock Hall.

According to the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation online records, the property owners are identified as Harold and Ruth McNeil of Hatboro, Pennsylvania.

The fire, described as “incendiary,” originated on the exterior of the house and was self-extinguished prior to being discovered, according to investigators.

A smoke alarm was present but there “was no activation due to unprotected area,” according to the news release.

There was no fire department response.

A family member reported the fire at 2:22 p.m.
