ROCK HALL — Bryce Jacobs, a rising sophomore at Kent County High School, has made quite the splash in Rock Hall this summer.
In June, Jacobs competed in the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company’s third annual Guardian of the Pearl Rockfish Tournament. This was his final year of eligibility in the youth category and what better way to celebrate than to place third — and collect $1,530.
Jacobs fished aboard SeaDux with Capt. Brian Councell during the June 7-9 tournament; his prize-winning catch weighed 4 pounds, 8 ounces.
During the awards ceremony, Jacobs donated his winnings back to the fire company in support of its new ambulance, which made its community debut at the tournament.
Jacobs graciously donated the money as a thank you for the times the RHVFC assisted his grandmother Rosemary Elburn, who passed away earlier this year.
When he donated his prize money, Jacobs said it was good karma and that good would come back to him.
Jacobs’ winning season continued this month, when he was announced as the inaugural recipient of the Rock Hall Youth Leadership and Courage Award.
Sponsored by Haven Harbour Marina Resorts, where Jacobs can be found working this summer, the annual $2,500 award honors a young person from Rock Hall who exemplifies exceptional leadership and courage in the community.
According to a news release, Jacobs’ generosity of spirit, as reflected by his actions at the fishing tournament this summer, inspired the creation of Haven Harbour Marina Resorts’ award.
He will join a select group of Haven Harbour Marina Resorts slip holders and leaders in choosing future award recipients who will be applauded for their significant contributions to the community.
