Joiner is KCHS’ 1st state champion golfer

COLLEGE PARK — This just in.

Kent County High School has its first state champion golfer in 15-year-old sophomore Quinten Joiner, who put together a 36-hole score of 1-over-par 143 to win the Class 1A/2A division.

Joiner had a seven-stroke lead after firing a 4-under-par 67 in the semifinal round on Tuesday at the University of Maryland course in College Park.

He bogeyed his first hole this morning, and finished with a round of 76, but ultimately maintained that seven-stroke advantage.

Winston Thomas of Southern-Anne Arundel, who was tied for second after the semifinal round, was the runner-up with 150.

There was a three-way tie for third with 151.

The Evening Enterprise will follow up with a thorough report and interview with Joiner.
