Joiner is medalist with par 36 at River Marsh

CAMBRIDGE — Golf is a fickle game because you can never be sure how you’ll hit ’em.

But on Monday, Kent County freshman Quinten Joiner was on top of his game.

He shot a par 36 at the Hyatt River Marsh Golf Club in Cambridge to win medalist honors outright for the first time in his young high school career.

In his three previous matches, Joiner tied for first, then placed second and then slipped to fifth.

His 36 on the front nine at River Marsh was one stroke better than Queen Anne’s Nate Smith and two strokes better than Kent Island’s Josh David.

Joiner birdied the par-5 third hole, bogeyed the fourth hole, and made par on the other seven holes.

Kent County placed fifth among the seven schools that brought full teams.

With all four scorers breaking 50, Kent Island (172) edged Queen Anne’s (175) for first.

St. Michaels, led by Lexi Rockwell’s 41, took third with 192.

Then came North Caroline (197), followed by Kent County (212), Easton (217) and North Dorchester (225).

Cambridge-South Dorchester and Colonel Richardson did not have the required four golfers to score.

For the Trojans, junior Braden Wilson carded a 49 to solidify his spot at No. 2.

Freshmen Drew Haas (61) and Barrett Gruszyinski (66) completed the scoring for all-underclassman Kent County.

This match marked the debut for freshman Brexton Usilton (69).
