Joiner’s 9-hole stroke average is second best in North Bayside

EASTON — Queen Anne’s County High School senior Nate Smith fired a 33 in the regular-season finale Oct. 8 at Hog Neck Golf Course to lower his nine-hole stroke average to 36.11, the best in the North Bayside Conference.

Kent County freshman Quinten Joiner finished second with a 37.11 stroke average and Kent Island senior Josh David was third with a 37.22 average in what coaches have said was the most competitive field of golfers in recent memory.

In the Oct. 8 finale, Smith and David tied for medalist honors, while Joiner carded a 38 to finish in a tie for third with Queen Anne’s Sam Yetman.

In the team scoring, Queen Anne’s edged county rival Kent Island, 160-166, for first and St. Michaels edged Talbot County rival Easton, 175-177, for third.

North Caroline (183) was next, followed by Kent County (210), North Dorchester (215) and Colonel Richardson (245).

Cambridge-South Dorchester did not bring a full team.

Kent County’s score was a composite of Joiner, Braden Wilson (45), Barrett Gruszyinski (59) and Jimmy Walters (68). This was the best round of the season for Wilson and Walters.

The Trojans hosted their only match of the season the day before at Chester River.

Smith had the low score of 34 to lead Queen Anne’s to the team victory.

North Caroline’s Taryn Brandt (38) was second, and Kent’s Joiner and Queen Anne’s Yetman tied for third with 40s.

As a team, Kent County placed seventh with scoring from Joiner, Wilson (56), Gruszyinski (58) and Ervin (59), who matched his personal best.
