CAMBRIDGE — Kent County High School’s girls and boys cross country teams are advancing at the same time to the state championships for the first time in program history.
At the state-qualifying Class 1A East Region meet here on Thursday, Kent County’s girls won the team title — also a first for the program.
Special education teacher Patrick McColigan ’18 is in his second year as head coach at alma mater KCHS.
Junior Janey Depp and senior Alden Swanson placed second and third, respectively, in a field of 34 girls.
Depp toured the 3-mile course in 20 minutes, 5.84 seconds, less than a full second behind winner Allie Suarezapecheche (20:04.97).
Swanson (20:54.56) was the only other girl to break 21 minutes.
On the boys side, in team scoring, Kent County was the runner-up to host Cambridge-South Dorchester.
Sophomore Kato Swanson had the best finish for the Trojans, fourth among 56 boys in 17:51.54.
Senior Pacome Mennetrier (18:01.34) was two spots behind Swanson.
The winning time was 16:41.08.
The Evening Enterprise will have more on this in the coming days.
