WORTON — Kent County High School’s girls are right where they were this time a year ago — seeded No. 1 in the Class 1A East II Region lacrosse tournament and seeking what would be only the second region title in program history.
That storyline will continue tomorrow night when KCHS [6-5] hosts No. 4 seed Cambridge-South Dorchester [2-9] in a region semifinal.
This is a rematch of a regular-season game that Kent County won handily, 15-8
The opening draw is at 6:30 p.m.
This will be the nightcap of a playoff twin bill, with Kent County’s boys facing off at 4 p.m. in their region semifinal.
The cost is $6 for adults and students; anyone 6 and younger will be admitted free of charge.
The stands will be cleared between the end of the boys game and the beginning of the girls game.
The TrojansĀ are keen on bouncing back from a three-game slump that included a 12-6 loss in their regular-season finale — it also was Senior Day — to their Mid-Shore rivals from North Caroline [6-5].
The locals led 6-3 at halftime, and then the proverbial wheels came off the cart. Due to four yellow cards, they played a man down for the final 15 ½ minutes.
Penalty-plagued KCHS also played a man down in the final minutes against Cambridge in mid-April, when victory was not in jeopardy.
“We can’t let that happen again,” head coach Jim Egan told The Evening Enterprise in a text message.
“We have to play clean,” he said.
Being the top seed is great, Egan said, but “we can’t be complacent.”
His message to the team at the conclusion of practice Wednesday was that Cambridge, coming off a commanding 16-4 victory over No. 5 seed North Dorchester in the quarterfinal round, will be a formidable opponent.
“Playing at home will be a big boost,” Egan said. “Our players are excited for this. They will be ready to go.”

The championship game is Monday, May 11 at the highest remaining seed.
