KCHS’ Hawkins adds 7 feet to her school discus record

CAMBRIDGE — Kent County junior Ke’yare Hawkins established a school record of 108 feet, 10 inches in the discus yesterday at the Bayside Conference track and field championships held at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School.

Hawkins crushed the previous record of 101-4 that she set last April at the Battle for [Route] 213 meet held at Queen Anne’s County High School.

Yesterday at the Bayside Conference championships, drawing all 17 Eastern Shore public high schools that have track and field, Hawkins placed third among 37 competitors. She trailed only Parkside senior Alana King (120-11) and James M. Bennett junior Jecolia Traore (115-11).

Parkside and Bennett are Class 2A schools.

KCHS is a small Class 1A school.

Also for KCHS, juniors Ramon “RJ” Peterson (20 feet, 9.5 inches) and Rah ‘Zir Wilson (20-8) placed second and third, respectively, in the long jump.

According to the preliminary results, Wilson was second in the 100 meters in 11.29 and Peterson was third in the 200 meters in 22.75.
