KCHS’ Joiner leads state golf after 1st day; field hockey team wins region title

COLLEGE PARK — Kent County High School sophomore Quinten Joiner is atop the leaderboard after the semifinal round of the Class 1A/2A state golf tournament at the University of Maryland course. Joiner, the District VIII champion, fired a 4-under-par 67 to take a seven-stroke lead after 18 holes.

Catoctin’s Callen Edmonston and Southern’s Winston Thomas are tied for second, each carding a 3-over 74.

The final round is Wednesday.

Also, KCHS’ field hockey team pulled off another upset Tuesday night, defeating host North East in the Class 1A South Region I championship game, 3-1.

The Trojans, who are 4-1 over their last five games, rallied from a 1-0 first-quarter deficit on goals by Abby Gallo, McKenna Messick and Tess Fuchs.
