CHESTERTOWN — Kent County High School sophomore Quinten Joiner tightened his grip on the North Bayside Conference leaderboard last week when he carded an even-par 35 on his home course at Chester River Yacht & Country Club.
Joiner has been the outright medalist in every match this season but one; he shared that honor with Kent Island senior Josh David on Sept. 23, when Joiner and David both shot 38s at Hog Neck Golf Course in Easton
On Monday, Sept. 29 at Chester River, David was fourth with a 39 — one stroke behind teammate Scott Schell and Queen Anne’s George Cook, who tied for second.
In the team scoring, Kent Island was the winner with a composite score of 160.
Queen Anne’s placed second with 169.
Third-place Easton (186) was the only other school to break 200.
North Caroline (204) won a spirited battle for fourth with St. Michaels (207) and Kent County (209).
Rounding out the field were North Dorchester (217), Cambridge-South Dorchester (251) and Colonel Richardson (259).
Golfers played the inside nine, what old-timers will remember as the original course.
Joiner missed a couple of birdie putts inside 10 feet and three-putted one hole, but still was better than the other 45 golfers.
Also scoring for the host Trojans were Braden Wilson (53), Tucker Ervin (58) and Lawrence Peach (63).
Brexton Usilton shot a 68, but only the four lowest scores are added together to form the team score.
