Kent County Public Schools offers spring CDL training course

WORTON — Kent County Public Schools is offering a commercial driver’s license (CDL) training program for would-be bus drivers.

Requirements for this course include:

• High school diploma or GED certificate

• Must be at least 21 and possess a valid Maryland driver’s license

• Must pass a Department of Transportation physical (fee paid by student) and drug screening

• Currently have zero points on your driving record

• Completed Kent County Public Schools’ bus driver’s application

Classes will be held at the KCPS bus depot at 11085 Worton Road, Worton, beginning Monday, April 14.

During weeks 1 and 2, entry-level driver training and CDL permit test (written exam fee must paid by student) will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Other course information:

• Weeks 3-7: pre-trip inspection, range (maneuvers) and behind the wheel training (meets three to four times a week)

• Week 8: Motor Vehicle Administration skills test (fee paid by student)

• Weeks 9-12, if hired: KCPS bus certification training

Materials needed for the course include pen/pencil, notebook and highlighter. A driving manual and computer will be provided by the instructor.

Kent County Public Schools offers study materials to pass the CDL permit test; face-to-face/hybrid learning courses; and training with experienced CDL trainers.
