Peterson sets KCHS record in 300 meters

SNOW HILL — Kent County High School has its first winner of the 2024-25 indoor track season in junior RJ Peterson, who led the 300 meters Dec. 11 at the Worcester County Recreation Center.

Peterson stopped the timer in a school record of 37.41 seconds, leaning across the line ahead of Cambridge-South Dorchester’s top sprinter Tori Willis Jr. (37.87).

Lamont Wesley held the previous record of 37.6 since February 2007.

On Dec. 11, Peterson and Willis were the only two runners to break 39 seconds. [Of note, Willis won the 55 meters in 6.62 and was second in the 55-meter hurdles in 7.91.]

WiHi senior Dominic Gale was third in 39.08, followed by four others who also ran under 40 seconds.

All told, there were 27 entries in this event.

The Trojans also had a medalist in senior Gavin Larrimore, who placed third with a throw of 39 feet, 9 inches in the shot put.

On the girls’ side, junior Ke’yare Hawkins had the best finish for Kent County — second in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 11 inches. She trailed only Parkside senior Alana King (37-2.5).

Queen Anne’s junior Makena Fellows was third (31-1).
