Kent draws Perryville in 1st round of softball playoffs

WORTON — Kent County (2-15) travels to Perryville (7-10) on Thursday, May 9 for the only first-round game in the Class 1A East Region I softball tournament.

KCHS is the fifth seed in the five-school region.

It’s been a challenging season for the small Kent County team, which is looking to halt a six-game losing streak.

The Trojans were forced to forfeit a game in late April because they did not have enough players to field a team.

They probably will dress only 10 players on Thursday, according to coach Michelle Phillips.

It’s a young team with only two seniors.

The leader on and off the field is junior Kate Cannon, who has played six of the nine positions. She was the team MVP in 2023.

The winner of the Kent County-Perryville game will face top seed Colonel Richardson (13-5) in the semifinal round.

Colonel Richardson swept KCHS in the home-and-away series during the regular season.

Kent County and Perryville did not play one another during the season.

Bohemia Manor (9-9) will host St. Michaels (7-10) in Thursday’s other region semifinal.
