WORTON — The expectation is that good practices this week will produce a better result than last week for the Trojans, who opened the high school football season with a 35-12 loss at Bohemia Manor.
They play at home for the first time Friday night, Sept. 13.
In the Sept. 6 season opener, KCHS trailed 28-0 before quarterback Dwan Harris connected with Jonah Somerville and RJ Peterson for a pair of third-quarter scoring strikes.
The try for two after each touchdown failed.
“This wasn’t horrible, but there is much needed work” to be done, head coach Harold Somerville told The Evening Enterprise.
Among other things, he said “running plays didn’t take off. Passing game was better.”
Bo Manor’s passing game was even better as sophomore Kolby Dunn was 13-of-16 for 242 yards.
The Eagles went with two quarterbacks, Dunn and senior Chris Harris, who scored the first TD of the night on a 30-yard run.
Harris also had a receiving touchdown and finished with more then 100 yards.
All in all, however, last week’s game against Bo Manor was the best to date in this series during Harold Somerville’s three-year tenure as head coach at alma mater KCHS.
In the previous two years combined, Bo Manor outscored Kent County, 90-6.
The Trojans open their home slate tonight (Sept. 13) at 6 o’clock against the Firebirds of Arcadia High School of Virginia.
At halftime, the Brigade of Blue marching band led by drum major Joseph Donaldson will debut its 2024 show with the theme of “Platforms and Polyesters,” featuring songs from the ’70s.
Arcadia (1-1) is coming off of a 27-14 win against Charles City last week after dropping its opener, 35-27, at Windsor on Aug. 29.
