CHESTERTOWN — Kent School’s eighth graders will bring “The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition” to the stage on Friday and Saturday night, May 15-16.
Specially designed for young performers, this is an adaptation of Frank L. Baum’s classic story of Dorothy and her loyal companion Toto as they try to find their way home. On their journey they encounter Munchkins, winged monkeys and witches, good and bad, while also making new friends in a Scarecrow with no brain, a Tin Man without a heart and a cowardly Lion.
“The class looks forward to embracing their parts through song and dance as they act alongside one another for the first time,” show director Bonnie Williams said. “The sets are coming to life, thanks to the students’ creations. I think it will be a magical show,” she added.
Musical director Matthew Wirtz is confident the students will shine. “Their hard work will show on the stage when they perform in front of an audience. I am proud of what the students have accomplished,” he said.
The performances — at 7 o’clock each evening — are open to the public. Admission is free.
