Kibler named interim superintendent of Queen Anne’s schools

CENTREVILLE — At its June 4 meeting, the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education announced that Matthew Kibler will serve as interim superintendent for the 2025-26 academic year.

His first day is July 1.

Currently, Kibler is the assistant superintendent, a position he has held since April 2024.

He succeeds Patricia Saelens, who notified the board of education in January that she would not seek a second term as superintendent and intended to retire — after 33 years in public education — when her contract ends June 30.

Kibler lives in Church Hill with his wife Bryn and their two sons, who both attend Queen Anne’s County Public Schools.

Kibler has been on staff with QACPS for four years, previously working as the director of accountability and implementation, overseeing the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.

Prior to his tenure with Queen Anne’s County Public Schools, Kibler worked for nine years at Washington College, where his last post was as assistant vice president for institutional effectiveness and analytics.

He began his career as a high school math teacher.

Kibler received his Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Wilmington University.

He also holds a master’s degree in applied statistics from Penn State and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Washington College.

Kibler said in a written statement: “I am incredibly grateful to the Board for putting their trust and confidence in me to be the Interim Superintendent of Queen Anne’s County Public Schools. It is an honor to accept this role. As a member of this community, I am deeply committed to the success of our school system. We are fortunate to have an incredible group of teachers, administrators, staff, families, and community members who care deeply about our students and their education. I am proud to be a part of Queen Anne’s County Public Schools and look forward to continuing to work together in this new role.”
