CHESTERTOWN — The Voting Rights Act of 1965, and its aftermath 60 years later, will be the topic of a presentation next week sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Kent County.
Kathryn Lee, Ph.D., will give an overview of the original legislation and how Supreme Court decisions have reshaped It.
Her presentation is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church hall, 101 N. Cross St. in downtown Chestertown.
Lee holds a doctorate in political science from Johns Hopkins University and a law degree from Temple University.
She was a political science professor for 38 years.
Lee moved to Chestertown in July 2022 from Spokane, Washington after retiring from Whitworth University, where she served as chair of the political science department.
She also taught at Eastern University in St. Davids, Pennsylvania and Seattle Pacific University.
“Dr. Lee has a passionate interest in constitutional issues related to gender equality and women’s representation on the bench, especially in the U.S. Supreme Court,” a news release states.
The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions following Lee’s presentation.
The event is free and open to the public.
