Mainstay Players celebrate the Grand Ole Opry in Rock Hall

ROCK HALL — The Mainstay Community Players will present another of their popular singalong tribute concerts on Saturday, Nov. 22.

The group of about 20 local musicians has prepared “A Night at the Opry,” celebrating the superstars of classic country music, the legends who defined the golden age of Nashville and the famed Opry House that marked the pinnacle of their careers.

The Grand Ole Opry’s recognized start date is Nov. 28, 1925 — literally a century ago — when radio station WSM broadcast a program called “WSM Barn Dance” featuring fiddler Uncle Jimmy Thompson.

It was later renamed the Grand Ole Opry.

After leaving the initial studio, the Opry moved to several other venues before finding a long-term home at the Ryman Auditorium.

In 1974, the show made the move to its current location known as the Opry House.

An invitation to perform at the Opry House is one of the greatest accomplishments any country artist can hope to achieve in their career and celebrates them as one of the greats of the genre. Among the stars who have appeared on that stage are Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Roy Acuff, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and The Carter Family.

Showtime for the Nov. 22 concert is 8 p.m.

Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased online at mainstayrockhall.org.

Phone reservations are accepted by calling 410-639-9133.

Tickets reserved by phone are $25 when paid for at the door.

The Mainstay is located at 5753 N. Main St. in Rock Hall.

Its regular calendar of local, regional and nationally touring artists features a live performance every week of the year, February through December, in a variety of music genres.

The programs of The Mainstay are supported in part with funding from the Maryland State Arts Council and Kent Cultural Alliance.
