March 3 is deadline for Independent Artist Grants applications

CHESTERTOWN — The Kent Cultural Alliance is accepting applications for the 2024 Independent Artist Grants.

According to a post on its website, the KCA has $20,000 to award, which allows for 40 grants of $500 each.

This is a one-time cash grant and is open to any artist who is living and creating in Kent County. (If you do not live in Kent, contact your county arts council to inquire about funding in your county.)

The application window will close at midnight Sunday, March 3.

The application includes questions about the artist’s practice, plans for using funding and the exhibition of their work.

It is not a requirement of this grant that art is your primary source of income.

The KCA’s definition of art is multidisciplinary and includes practices often referred to as craft.

Money from this grant can be used to purchase supplies, or go toward a studio rental, marketing costs, equipment repairs or anything else that is directly related to your art.

It may not be used for travel.

If there are more qualified applicants than the fund is able to accommodate, their names will be placed into a randomizer to select 40 artists to receive grants. This will not be a first-come, first-served process.

A link for an online application and a downloadable PDF can be found on the KCA website, www.kentculture.org.

To receive a printed copy of the application, or if you have any questions, call the KCA at 410-778-3700 or email Deputy Director Hester Sachse at hester@kentculture.org.

Artists also can pick up a paper application at the Vincent and Leslie Prince Raimond Cultural Center, 101 Spring Ave. in downtown Chestertown. The office is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.
