Menorah to be lit in Chestertown on 1st night of Hanukkah

CHESTERTOWN — There will be a menorah lighting in Fountain Park at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, which is the first night of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah.

The event, which is open to the public, is sponsored by the Chestertown Havurah and Main Street Chestertown.

Also called the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah celebrates events from more than 2,000 years ago.

Lasting eight days, Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the Temple of Jerusalem after a successful revolt of the Jewish people against their Syrian-Greek oppressors.
